Checking out the bit between departure and arrival. I hope I never get there.
This is a journal more than a blog.
Very self-centred. It is written for some future me. I am not looking for a following. You may read it. Please comment, but please don't judge. I write about what interests me, concerns me, and a bit about what happens to me. I hope some of it interests or entertains you.I should probably have titled this blog "Shit Happens". Because it does.
Sometimes I quote a song or some poetry, either just because I really like it, or because it expresses something I cannot put as eloquently into my own words. Occasionally i am brave enough to publish one of my own.

I Wept for a Frightened little Girl.
I have daughters. I cannot believe that a member of a race that went through the holocaust could do this. An Israeli army officer who repeatedly shot a 13-year-old Palestinian girl in Gaza dismissed a warning from another soldier that … Continue reading

Trolling
I am beginning to get an inkling of the sense of fun that trolls get. I am not against hunting. As a recreational pastime and as a source of food it is fine. Attempting to exterminate an indigenous species out of misguided … Continue reading

The Man who Saved the World.
And he was not one of “us”. Thank you Vasili Arkhipov, the man who prevented nuclear war: 50 years ago, at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, second-in-command Vasilli Arkhipov of the Soviet submarine B-59 refused to agree with his … Continue reading

A Brief Love Story.
Nine hazel trees grew around the Well of Segais, where the sacred Salmon lived. The hazelnuts were wisdom, and the salmon ate them all as they fell into the pool. All except one. I took it. But that is another … Continue reading
Payday
Did some shopping today. Camping stuff: Portable stoves and cooking gear, water bottles, military tactical cutlery, hard water soap, that sort of thing. The next thing to order is a Scala full-duplex intercom for bike to bike duets, listening to … Continue reading
Su has a Sabre
Dear Little Su the singing angel came home last night from her second session at fencing. Not the sort involving posts, strainers and no.8 wire, but the kind involving cutlery. And not just any old cutlery, or even foils or … Continue reading
