Definition of a Miracle

8 April 2012
The crash of a US Navy fighter jet into a residential complex in Virginia is being blamed on a catastrophic mechanical malfunction.

CNN reports nine people were injured, including the two pilots, when the FA18 smashed to the ground just after take-off.

Admiral John Harvey says it’s incredible nobody was killed.

“I felt the worst was yet to come on this. The Mayor and I both agreed that if you want to define a miracle, what happened here yesterday meets that definition for me.”

So.  The definition of miracle is “a random event in which someone could have died, but didn’t” or “A Disaster that is not as bad as it might have been”.  Surely all disasters qualify. Some people survived the Titanic.

If by Miracle he is suggesting divine intervention, then I suggest it could have been performed a little earlier.  Say at the time the starter motor button was pushed.  If jets have starter motors.

Though I am old with wandering Through hollow lands and hilly lands, I will find out where she has gone, And kiss her lips and take her hands; And walk among long dappled grass, And pluck till time and times are done, The silver apples of the moon, The golden apples of the sun.
